LIZARD MAN, Wati Ngintaka, was attracted by the sound of a grinding stone which led him to travel from Arang’ nga all the way to Wayatina where he saw Anangu tjuta (many Aboriginal people) at a camp.
In the camp he was given a seed cake which he thought was dry and was then given delicious food that he believed was made with seeds ground in the special stone. When everyone went hunting the next day, Wati Ngintaka stayed, complaining of sore feet and wrapped the grinding stone in his tail and he then left.
Knowing the people would chase him for the grinding stone, he called up the young Lizards to follow behind him and wipe out his tracks. With so many Lizard tracks, the people were unable to follow him and Wati Ngintaka passed away at Aran’ nga (Northern Territory) where he is seen in the rock formations.
